Primary focal hyperhidrosis is a disorder of the eccrine sweat glands leading to idiopathic excessive sweating mostly affecting the axillae, face, palms and soles. In most of the cases there is no underlying disease and it is mainly associated with major physical, psychological, and occupational impairment. In the severe forms of hyperhidrosis, current conservative therapeutic strategies are disappointing.

Botulinum toxin is a successful treatment used in hyperhidrosis for more than fifteen years with quite successful results although its effect is temporary. Non-surgical treatment results are typically transient, whereas surgical therapies may be more significant and permanent.

Newly introduced and innovative minimally invasive laser techniques can result in long term and significant clinical improvement of hyperhidrosis.
